Solar Spirit IV is our most advanced solar car produced to date. Weighing in at less than 800 pounds with the driver, this is the lightest and most aerodynamically superior car the institute has produced.
Currently EVRI is working to bring Spirit IV up to the technical specifications of the World Solar Challenge in order to return hopefully to competition in the Fall of 2005. The frame is made of 6061 T6 Tubular Aluminum and sports the
curvey carbon fiber/aluminum sandwich construction for the body. In direct sunlight, Spirit IV produces 800 W of power charging 4.2 KWh Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that power a variable gap, brushless DC 3 kW wheel motor.
The Electric Vehicle Research Institute is a non-profit organization with a competitive
advantage through the understanding and development of electric vehicle technology, while actively
pursuing the commercialization of electric vehicles.
